TitleRecords of the Prestwood Horse Show and Agricultural Society
DescriptionThe Prestwood Horse Show and Agricultural Society was apparently founded in or about the year 1922. The Show was held annually on August Bank Holiday and was very successful, being a popular local event. Awards were made for show jumping, amateur boxing and honey, as well as for livestock and agricultural produce. The last show was held in 1939, after which it was decided to hold only a small horticultural show on account of the war. According to the minute books there were 142 members in 1939. There are no minutes from 1940 until 1947 when moves began to be made to dissolve the Society, which was finally done in 1950. The collection includes items relating to the 'Prestwood Show' held in 1977. This was on a much smaller scale and the purpose was to raise money for the sports hall to be built on the site of the former showground.
